“Adapt?” Desi asked, not sure she liked the sound of that.

“Yeah. And I think I’ve got it.” Seth studied her, a crooked grin on his face. He tossed her bodily over his shoulder in a fireman’s hold.

“Seth, I don’t think this is what the romance novels mean when they say, ‘He carried her into his bedroom.’”

“Ah, but as a scientist I’ve learned there are often a multitude of solutions to any one problem.”

Desi was laughing, and she noticed he was, as well. “Put me down!”

“Not yet. I’m carrying you to my bedroom, and then…what’s the proper romantic word?”

Make love. That’s the phrase she wanted to blurt out. Instead she kept her tone light. “Ravish. You’re going to ravish me.”

“Oooh, that sounds good. Seth Rutherford—gentleman, academic, ravisher of one beautiful, smart, sexy woman, herewith now in my bedchamber.”

Desi could not stop giggling; that is, until Seth placed his eager mouth over hers.
